Our mission is to build a more sustainable world and to ensure that R3’s global impact extends beyond technology and business. This commitment influences the partnerships we form, the events we organize and the products we develop. And we’re proud to say Corda is the most sustainable blockchain platform–by design–on the market.
For the Greater Good
We take pride in giving back
Making a difference and giving back to our communities is a key part of our culture. In fact, we give employees up to two paid days per year to volunteer and join community outreach activities. We also match employee charitable contributions.
A key outcome of 2021’s COP26 conference was the principle that all financial decisions now need to take climate into account and industry leaders need to integrate ESG priorities into their portfolios. Blockchain can provide the transparency, integrity and trust to support ESG markets with integrity and Corda is on the path to becoming a global leader as a sustainable finance platform.

Trust technology for good
Trust technology delivers technical assurances that information will be used only as agreed, which makes it ideal for combatting challenges facing humanity today. Corda is being used to help fight climate change and water scarcity.
Rebalance Earth: creating a trustworthy, transparent and traceable ecosystem to safeguard nature
Rebalance Earth’s Walid Al Saqqaf discusses how Corda is not only the most sustainable DLT platform, but it’s also being used to create a transparent and traceable ecosystem that can safely transfer funding into projects that support the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
MAKING AN IMPACT
See how R3 is giving back
Helping animals in crisis
R3ers recently spent the day volunteering at Animal Haven, a nonprofit animal rescue based in New York City that finds homes for dogs and cats in crisis. The team joined in on a variety of activities including, walking dogs, socializing with cats and cleaning animal areas and the facility.
Fighting climate change with reforestation
R3 teamed up with Ecologi in 2022 to plant over 115,000 trees. One of the best tools to tackle the climate crisis and keep our temperatures from rising is to plant trees. They are also crucial in preventing ecological collapse. View the R3 Forest.
Delivering food to those in need
Since R3 employees transitioned from in-office to remote working as a result of Covid-19 precautions, our London and Dublin offices have been redirecting our weekly non-perishable food deliveries to various organizations that support individuals in need, such as first responders and front-line workers and those who are facing homelessness, poverty and social exclusion. To date we have collectively donated nearly 35,000 individual food and drink items to these organizations.
During CordaCon 2021, R3 donated on behalf of every in-person and virtual attendee to Charity Water as part of our R3 Cares initiative. This resulted in an amazing donation of over $11,000 USD to support the building of one well in Ethiopia, which will provide clean drinking water to a village! The well will be named CordaCon21.
Covid-19 relief efforts
With the current global health crisis and the hardships that many continue to face, we at R3 recognized a need to do whatever we can to help. Through our Corporate Social Responsibility committee, we polled employees to determine organizations that are actively supporting Covid-19 relief efforts and donated more than $45,000 USD to 6 charities.
Every month around 166 children living with a life-limiting condition will have their lives cut short, and with the challenges of daily life in a pandemic, their dreams are more at risk of being forgotten. R3 decided to get involved and donated 166 GBP/USD to Dreams Come True UK, Make a Wish Foundation New York and Make a Wish Foundation Singapore per R3 employee who completed the 166 Challenge. This resulted in a total donation of over $21,000 USD to those three organizations.
National 3 Peaks Challenge UK
The classic Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. The overall distance to complete the challenge is around 37 km and you typically spend around 14 hours walking on a successful challenge. In September, 6 members of the R3 London team took on The National 3 Peaks Challenge and raised more than 5,000 GBP for Dreams Come True.
Weekly virtual Bar3 donations
Across R3 offices globally, we host (now virtually) a weekly happy hour dubbed ‘Bar3’ for employees to unwind and positively engage with one another in non-work focused activities. As part of this social activity, R3 encourages participation donations from employees in the amount of their choosing, which are then 100% matched by R3 and donated to a rotation of charitable organizations across the globe. Over the last 19 weeks, we have been fortunate enough to donate to over 28 charities.
