Solving the Issues in Electric Vehicle Charging: Announcing Parsedata as the Corda Challenge: 5G Winner

Back in October, R3 invited startups across the globe to compete to unlock and accelerate the potential of 5G — using R3’s Corda blockchain platform.

With the fantastic support from our sponsors Amazon Web Services (AWS), Swisscom and Vodafone, today we are proud to announce Parsedata as the winner of the Corda Challenge: 5G!

Over several months and three rounds of competition, Parsedata’s peer-to-peer commerce platform for electric vehicle charging captivated the judges from AWS, R3, Swisscom and Vodafone. Leveraging the connectivity of 5G and Corda’s blockchain technology, Parsedata’s solution demonstrated exciting potential and ultimately went on to take home the prize at the finals.

“R3 helped us move very quickly from idea to implementation. We couldn’t have made the innovations we have without their support and the expertise of the industry leaders they brought together to sponsor the challenge. We now look forward to moving to a V2G (vehicle to grid) pilot project.” — Jay Fallah, CEO of Parsedata

For their winning submission, Parsedata will receive $15,000 in prize money and a one year Corda Enterprise license, in addition to the continued support from the sponsors AWS, Swisscom and Vodafone to help take their solution to market.

“5G and blockchain technology, together, represent a tremendous opportunity to create value for our customers. AWS is privileged to have supported the Corda 5G Challenge and the innovative ideas the participants produced. I would like to congratulate Parsedata for its winning solution; we support its vision for accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles using financial incentives enabled by blockchain and 5G.” — Fletcher McCraw, Sr. Blockchain Partner Manager at AWS

“Parsedata’s use case clearly shows the convergence of blockchain and IoT in an increasingly connected world based on 5G technology. We are excited to see them further developing their business idea and hope to see more such use cases in the near future” — Lukas Hohl, CEO of Swisscom Blockchain

Parsedata team came across as one of the most technically competent and committed to make their idea work. They also presented a clear vision on how they will take benefit of the 5G networks. The Electric Vehicle market sector is expected to grow significantly in the next few years, and we look forward to working with Parsedata on developing the EV charging use case.” — Svetlana Grant, Head of IoT Strategic Technology Partnerships at Vodafone

We’d also like to make a special mention of the runners-up: Agrin Health, Poseidon Network, TravelHorse and ThingsProtocol who all presented fantastic solutions in the finals and will have the opportunity to speak with AWS, Swisscom, Vodafone and join R3’s Venture Development program to help advance their solutions further.

About the Challenge

Over three rounds, participants were charged with pitching, designing, and developing a unique application built on Corda, R3’s enterprise blockchain platform, that unlocked and accelerated the potential of 5G.

Entries were narrowed down to five finalists who presented a full stack prototype of the application to a panel of judges from AWS, R3, Swisscom, and Vodafone.

Throughout the challenge, the participants were mentored by AWS, Swisscom and Vodafone to steer and validate their solutions. In addition, participants had access to R3’s Venture Development resources which included time with dedicated solution engineers and workshops to help guide the build out of their solutions on Corda.

This challenge is managed by R3’s Venture Development team, the Venture Development program helps startups unlock the deep expertise of R3 and our partners, immersing founders in the world’s largest blockchain ecosystem.
